Anyone can be inspired when there is infinite
choice; however, it takes a bit of genius to work creatively around limitations in order to realize more than what first comes
to mind. Robert Phillips, once called a "self-educated genius" by renowned American architect Charles Willard Moore,
does exactly that as he draws inspiration from what exists and then – in collaboration with the client - transforms
the ordinary into the most functional and beautiful space it can be.
Robert explains, "Space
is the three-dimensional area available to us, while the structure is what encloses and enhances that space. However, it is
shadow that reveals the space’s soul. My goal, as we go through the design/build process, is to collaborate with the
homeowner to not only get what they need from structure, but to create a space that is truly unique and personal to them –
a space with soul."
An accomplished artisan, Robert began creating unique architectural details using wood,
metal, plaster, and concrete more than 30 years ago. His painstaking attention to detail, and inspired use of nuance and texture,
has earned him national recognition and acclaim.
Robert
is now announcing a new role to help "Do-It-Yourselfers!"
