Robert Phillips restoration and building projects were featured many times during the 1980s in the home tours sponsored by
the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association, Austin, Texas.
Robert and Betty hosting tour of their restored home
Robert Phillips' work was celebrated in the restoration of the Roberts-Beauchamp Home. Robert participated in the restoration
of the home in a Victorian style. The front of the roof was lifted to incorporate a bay window. Pressed metalwork and a
metal gable design ornament were added by Robert to accentuate the roof overhang.
"Robert Phillips is the owner, architect and builder of this building. And master craftsman and carpenter, he is
noted for a number of significant restoration projects in Hyde Park. This meticulously crafted building exhibits the sense
of traditional centeredness and balance reminiscentof classical Victorian buildings. The detailing work--decorated columns,
fanciful tinwork, widow's walk and interior molding--are designed to soften the building's massiveness and create visual stimulation.
The project successfully demonstrate how sensitivity to the past can be reflected in new construction." Page 4
